Storyboard Text

  • Welcome to the RJ Music LAB! Today, we will learn how to properly mic your drums using RJ58 and RJ57 Microphones for studio recording and sound reinforcement purposes
  • We will be using RJ57 for the Hihat and snare, and RJ58 for the Kick
  • Point the RJ57 Microphone towards the center of the Snare top to capture attack and crisp impact of stick to snare action. Adjust to a safe distance where it will not hinder the drummer's playing
  • For the kick mic, make sure to point your mic into the hole at the back of your kick drum. Remember to put it as close to the inside of the hole as possible to prevent mic from picking up air blasts from the kick
  • Lastly, to mic your Hi-hat, point your RJ57 Microphone perpendicular to the surface of your hi-hat top to capture the close and open hi-hat sound and prevent capturing the air pops produced by the open and close action on the hi-hats
  • Now, let's see how the this setup will sound like.
  • *Play drumbeat and rudiments to showcase the pickup of RJ Microphones
  • If you are interested in doing this same setup, you can buy these microphones in the nearest RJ Guitar Center stores or you can order online! Links are in the description.
