Storyboard Text

  • Birth and Childhood
  • Preparation
  • Let's stay here forever! No need to return home!
  • Cyclops Cave
  • ...?
  • Wine! A gift of the gods to man!
  • During the Trojan War, Odysseus devised a plan where he would send a giant horse to be seen as a sign of surrender and as an offering to Poseidon. Inside the horse, however, were his most skilled warriors who were in hiding and waiting for a time to strike. When they end up killing the people of Troy, they forget to leave a real offering to Poseidon, and as a result are punished and sent to 20 grueling years at sea, where obstacles await them.
  • Scylla and Charybdis
  • After escaping Troy, Odysseus and his men find themselves on the coast of the Lotus-Eaters. Three of his men ate the Lotus and did not want to return home, but Odysseus dragged them back, for he did not want them to lose sight of their goal: to return home.
  • Ultimate Battle
  • Odysseus finds himself in a difficult situation, where he has to outsmart the cyclops in order to save him and his men from being eaten. The cyclops would be an example of a villain because he is an obstacle that is keeping Odysseus away from reaching his ultimate goal.
  • Triumphant Return
  • Odysseus and his men were faced with two obstacles when crossing the strait leading to Thrinacia. On the left was Charybdis, who created whirlpools that no ship could survive. On the right was Scylla, who would sweep sailors from under and eat them alive. This would be an example of a wasteland because of the dangerous extremes that our hero has to try to avoid and survive.
  • Odysseus is aware that he was in danger, so when he returned to Ithica, he disguised himself as a helpless beggar. He unites with his son for the first time, and together they devise a plan to take down the cruel nobles and princes who are terrorizing the city. He is initiated into hero status because his plan succeeds and he is able to claim his rightful place back as the ruler of Ithica and he has demonstrated that he is capable of returning home and reclaiming the throne.
  • It is he! Odysseus has returned!
  • After defeating all of the suitors, Odysseus reunites with his wife, Penelope, and meets his son. After all of the struggles and hardships during his journey, he has finally returned home to Ithica. His people celebrate because they are finally free of the princes and nobles that terrorized their city and robbed them of their freedoms and happiness.
