- Desiree came back to Mallard after 10 years and didn't feel like she was comfortable. “Ten years. She had been home ten years. Sometimes she glanced around the house, shaking her head, as if she didn’t understand how she’d found herself back.” The theme is uneasy because she doesn’t know how to feel being back home since it’s be so long and she didn’t know if she’d ever be back here.
- Desiree came back home after 10 years and everything in the house reminds her of Stella. “Everywhere around the house, a door handle or blanket or couch cushion that Stella had once touched, bearing the invisible remnants of her fingerprints.” Her being back home made her realize that she misses Stella and wants to see her.
