  • When the denominator is different, you must find a common denominator. An easy way is to list the multiples of 5 and 3, then use a number found in both lists as the common denominator. If you can't find one, multiply both denominators to get your common denominator. Remember: whatever you do to the top you do to the bottom. Multiply the denominator by the number that will result in the common denominator, don't forget to also multiply your numerator by the same number.
  • 11 x3 2 x5 Multiples:= --- + --- 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 5 x3 3 x5 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 33 10= --- + --- 15 15
  • That was easy!
  • 33 10= --- + --- 15 15 43= --- 15
  • Now, add the numerators and the denominator stays the same.
  • Ok, adding fractions wasn't as hard as I thought. But you'll NEVER be able to teach the town about subtracting fractions, that one is way harder!!!
  • Umm, it's actually pretty simple!
