- As Barney is telling a story to the other kids Felix says, "I never want to write another story. I never want to read another book. What good have books ever done me Mum and Da, we'd have been better off with guns. (Glietzman 132). (person vs self)
- I hate Nazis
- (person vs person) As Felix was trying to find water he screams, "Barney! he comes running in and almost falls over himself when he sees the poor horrible sight but then he grabs me and drags me into the hall. Its just a little kid I sob, they shouldn't shoot little kids." (Glietzman 128).
- why are you so pale
- (Person vs person) Prior to everyone walking to the train station Felix says, "Once the Nazis found our cellar. They dragged us all out and made us walk through the ghetto while pointing guns at us." (Glietzman 144).
- As Barney and Felix were hugging Felix said, "Barney is still holding me tight and I can feel the metal syringes in his coat pocket pressing up against my cheek. Suddenly I want him to stick one of the syringes into me so I can go into a deep sleep and never wake up and never feel this bad ever again." (Glietzman 131). (Person vs self)
- As Felix is laying down in his bed Zelda comes up to him and Felix says, "Zelda strokes my head. I try to ignore that too. But I can't. There's something wrong. Her hand is hot. Very hot. I sit up and look at her. Her face is pale. But when I touch her cheek, her skin is burning. "I got a temperature don't you know anything?" Then her eyes go funny and she flops on the floor." (Glietzman 133).
- As Felix, Chaya and Zelda jumped off the train Felix cries, "You know how when you jump off a moving train and Nazis shoot at you with machine guns and you see sharp tree stumps at you and you hit the ground so hard you feel like you've smashed your head open and bullets go through your chest and you don't survive even though you prayed to god, Jesus, Mary, the pope and Richmal Crompton?" That's what happened to poor Chaya." (Gleitzman 161). (Person vs person)
