Both Boxer and industrial workers during the Russian Revolution were exploited by their country's leaders, and would come to rebel against these people only to be exploited again by the replacement. Boxer and workers lived under poor working conditions, which improved briefly during times of rebellion, only to return to low standards under the new leader.
BOXERANDINDUSTRIAL WORKERS
Boxer is shown to be a hard worker, loyal, trusting, and not very intelligent. He rarely questions authority, and follows orders easily. The pigs take advantage of his loyalty to work him until he can't anymore, and then send him off to be killed. He is capable of fighting the pigs and the dogs, but he doesn't because of his beliefs in the Rebellion and Animalism.
"I will work harder! Napoleon is always right!" (description on pg. 37)
Russian workers were exploited by Tsar Nicholas II, and rebelled against his rule with Lenin and the October Revolution. After Stalin's takeover, conditions did not improve. Starvation, low wages, minimal fuel, and poor worker conditions continued to persist as they had in the Tsar's time, despite new leadership.
