Progressives were reformers who beleived in using government power to correct these wrong doing created through this time.
Mukrakers
Magazines like McClure's and American magazine would support these journalist with money and research assistance to allow them to uncover the true story behind America
They were a group of writers mostly journalist that would uncover and expose the unfair practices of big businesses. They wrote about the rise of industry abuses and corruption that lead to fortunes to higher authority.
muckrakers were also a big help in the launch of the progressive era.
Social Reformers
progressives became very outraged with the industries that they created their own private social reforms later known as settlement houses
These houses provided all different services to immigrants and urban poor
There was over 400 settlement houses operating in the US

The Progressive Legislative
Progressives were successful in passing new laws and implementing new policies for the local, state, and federal levels of the government.
Theodore Roosevelt
Many achievement were founded during this time aswell. some being the founding of The National Women sufferage Association. Other laws were also passed that dealt with some of the worst social and economic effects of industrialism.
during 1901 through 1919 the three main presidents during the Progressive era were Thodore roosevelt, William Howard Taft, And Woodrow Wilson. They each were reformers and did something to better American during their time as presidents.
The Progressive Presidents
Taft helped lower the tarrifs which helped the urban poor. And Woodrow Wilson put child labor laws into place which were highly needed at the time aswell.
The Segragated South
African American were under a stricter system of social isolation and racial segragation than before than before The Progressives even started their movement.
While progressives were making reforms of all sorts to help the nation African Americans in the south were still being treated inhumanely and having their rights being taken away .
Jim crow laws were implaced after the pessy v. ferguson and were deemed to be seperate but equal to both races after trial.
Theodore Roosevelt promised the square deal to Americans. This meant fair play and equality of oppurtunity including the conversation of natural resources.He passed several acts that overall helped the women and children of america especially at the time.
