Exoplanets:About Them And Are We Alone?By Henry Gillenwaters
Ms. Bubbleson, what is an exoplanet?
What a great question! To the flying bus!
Let's go see our astronaut friends in outer space. Let's hop in.
Fieeeelllld trriiiiiiip!
Space is endless. Exoplanets are Earth-like planets outside our solar system. Each one orbits a star like Earth orbits our Sun.
Wow! So cool!
There is more than one habitable planets in the universe!
Wasn't that a good feild-trip? Class dissmissed!
When was the first exoplanet discovered?
How many are there?
Why don't we hop in my space ship and we'll go find out?
There are more than 4,000 confirmed exoplanets!
The first was discovered in 1995 in France. It's called 51 Pegasi B, or Dimidium.
But it's believed over a trillion exist!
There are 4 types of exoplanets but the Earth Analog is similar to Earth in size, composition, and distance to their home star.
Exoplanets are made of the same elements as planet Earth and just as diverse.
How are they different?
What a great question!
Neptune-like exoplanets are large and gaseous. Hot Jupiters have high surface temperatures.Super Earths are bigger than Earth. They're made of rock and/or ice.
Did you know that the closest exoplanet to us is called Epsilon Eridani? It's 10.5 lightyears away!
Wow! So we might not be alone after all!
You three might be right. Maybe we are not alone.
Back to the bus!
Bye Ms. Astronaut. Thank you for teaching us. See you again next time.
Bye!
