Ch.6 Sam's Contrast and Contradiction

Storyboard Text

  • Sam Before Ch.1-5
  • Pivotal Moment Ch.6
  • Sam After Ch.8-9
  • Sam proves to be innocent by the way he reacts to the handgun inside of the block tower, "Landing with a thump against the floor. A handgun! I dropped the shirt as if it were too hot to touch...My hands trembled as I reached" (Magoon 81).
  • Chapter 12Sam falls deeper into the darkness
  •
  • As the projects were set in chaos, the anger through the city started to change Sam, "The heat rose up and held me. It pressed close to me, pushed its way inside... I picked up a brick from the sidewalk and flung it through the store window" (Magoon 97).
  • Chapter 19Destroying memories
  • Sam is not the same person, especially the way he replies to his Father, " Father's granite demand p;aced the last straw on the load I was carrying I spun toward him. 'What do you want from me?' I shouted...I'd never talked back to him. Never" (Magoon 137).
  • Sam is definitely changing and is seen by how differently he treats the hand gun, "My fingers curved around the handle, slid into the grooves made for them. My index finger tucked itself around the trigger... Maybe if I just showed it to Maxie, just for a minute, shed see there was more to me than-"(Magoon 182-183).
  • The darkness has swallowed Sam whole as he ruins what he and Stick have been making for years, "It meant nothing without him. I leaped across the room, throwing my body into the tower, thrashing my arms and legs until it was nothing but a cascade of blocks...I thought back to Raheem's whispered vow, to find the cop who'd taken Stick from me, from the world. I breathed easier then" (Magoon 262).
