- War finished in 1848 with America victorious. America gained land called Texas and had expanded Slavery south as well as paying for damages, about $15,000,000. The Mexicans were defeated and America took over the way very early. The president was proud to announce the victory and celebrated with the country.
- The slavery shall not go West as it will stay in our land of Texas
- Post Mexican-American War
- Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas went for presidency. Lincoln won which made Southerners mad and tried to separate from the union. He did not like this and made them stay. Said no more slavery spread and tried to finish it all.
- The Election of 1860
- The movement for the whites to decide whether they wanted slaves in Kansas and Nebraska and everybody went crazy. Many people wanted them but many people were also very surprised to even think that it was a question. But with the president not being sure, there was a vote for it. Not many people voted for slavery to not be there but many people did and with all the opinions the entire thing was wild.
