Thank you for agreeing to do this interview Mr. Vargas, the people have a lot of questions about you coming out as a undocumented immigrant.
Nice to meet you, its an honour to be here.
So let's get straight to the questions, why did you all of a sudden want to come out after years of living in fear that you would be found out?
Well you see when living in constant fear, nobody can live life to the fullest. I would constantly be paranoid of giving too much information, trusting the wrong people, and even lost many job opportunities due to the constant fear.
Why were you too scared to tell the world about this before?
Well one of the main reasons are that I would get the title of illegal, which nobody wants. The way people perceive immigrants can sometimes be as far as degrading, and of course there would be the risk of getting deported.
You have made it very clear that you dislike the word illegal, why is that?
The answer is quite obvious I would say. Nobody would like to be called illegal, as if they are something bad that do not belong. The word illegal already creates a very dark representation of immigrants, making it hard for the millions of immigrants here in America to speak up.
So would you say you support immigrants acting like citizens and lying for years?
Of course I don't support lying or living as a false citizen, but one of the reasons we immigrants are pressured to lie is because our countries may not have great opportunities, and telling the truth might get us sent back, so the created fear unfortunately pressures most of us to live under a false identity.
Do you regret writing that article after all the hate the media has been giving?
Definately not. The weight of the world has been lifted from my shoulders, and the hate I have received from the media supports my argument of how immigrants are represented in the media. But I have also gotten quite a bit of support, which I am grateful for.
