After the meeting, members decided to add the Executive and Judicial branches to solve the one-branch issue. This was vital because it prevented one branch from becoming too powerful and created a system of checks and balances. The judicial branch interprets the meanings of laws and decides how to apply them, and whether they go against the constitution. The executive branch is responsible for enforcing the laws.

The Connecticut Compromise was an agreement reached during the Constitutional Convention that provided a bicameral legislature, with representation in the House according to population, as well as in the Senate by equal numbers of each state.
