  • The schools for white children were better than schools for black children. They had better education and materials to learn. The African Americans were not treated fairly anywhere.
  • 9 11 ?
  • Like this, African American children were treated differently than the white children.
  • I wish that we were treated equally.
  • Oliver Brown, Linda Brown’s father, asked the principal of the white school if Linda can come here instead of a black school farther away. But the principal said that he wouldn’t take a black child.
  • NO WAY!!! We will not take a black child!
  • Fine!
  • Oliver and Linda went to Thurgood Marshall for the case that Linda couldn’t go to a white school because she was black. Thurgood Marshall agreed to help.
  • Sure why not?
  • Will you please be our lawyer for the case? I want my daughter to go to a white school.
  • Oliver, Linda, and Thurgood Marshall went to the court but they lost the case. This is where they are after the first court. They are now in the supreme court. they came here in 1954. When all the 9 Supreme court Justices agreed unanimously, the segregation of public schools were illegal.
  • When Marshall won the case, African American children and white children now could go to school together.
