- Setting
- The husband was first described as, "He didn’t take things hard, he didn’t grouch and whine when things didn’t go his way." This shows he was a easy going and agreeable wolf. Then later as the story progressed the wife said, ""He'd come back late and worn out, and pretty near cross for one so sweet-tempered"
- Plot
- The main form of conflict is man vs. man. Based on how everyone treated the husband after he turned into a human. "I saw him, I had to see him. My own dear love, turned in the hateful one."
- Point of view
- The setting of the story helps to create a visual in the readers mind to understand the text better. The description of the setting such as, "I went out into the passage and it was light there, and sunlight coming in from the door. And I saw him standing just outside, in the tall grass by the entrance." creates what seems to be a creepy and grassy area.
- Theme
- The climax of the story takes place when, "And I saw what he saw. I saw the changing." This was what the wife was experiencing when the husband was transforming into a human, or what she believes is a monster
- "it stared and peered, that thing my husband had turned in to"
- This story is told in first person point of view. The narrator of the story is the wife telling her view of what was happening to her husband. "I don't understand it, I don't believe it."
- "I don't understand it, I don't believe it."
- People should realize that animals are not the evil ones, but humans are. The theme of this story helps the readers understanding of how the wife protrayed her husband after he turned into a human but in her eyes, "The hateful one"
- "It had no gun, like the one from the man places do"
