  • Rather than being a physical war, The Cold War describes the time that The Soviet Union and The United States were on the brink of war for 50 years beginning in 1947. Both The United States and Soviet Union competed to be the first and best in all areas. This included spreading their political ideologies fastest.
  • The competition between the two caused uneasiness especially when they were racing to make nuclear weapons the fastest. The United States feared communism while The Soviet Union feared the US atomic bomb.

  • While Stalin was spreading communism to Eastern Europe, The United States offered aid to the same countries to stop the influence of communism on them. Soviets responded with their own form of The Marshall Plan.
  • The Soviet Union successfully detonated their atomic bomb in 1949 which caused tension, but The United States were more worried about the alliance The Soviet Union Created with The People's Republic Of China.

  • The United States joined the North Atlantic Treaty, which caused tension to rise and cause The Soviet Union to create the Warsaw Pact.
