- Hey Sam want to go get some cookies? We also need to get some for mom.
- Sure, lets go Samantha.
- Wait, Sam how many cookies did we get?
- We got 20 chocolate chip cookies.
- Hey we should give some of our cookies to the raccoon.
- We should give it 4 cookies.
- why does the raccoon keep looking at me...
- Lets go back home now.
- Hey mom we brought some cookies back for you.
- Hopefully they are good!!
- Well kiddos I have a question for you guys I was wondering of you could help me?
- So I need to pay back a loan for your school tuition. I was also wondering if you guys could help me with some of the money.
- I have to pay back $240.
- Yes, we can both help you with some of the money!
- So the first part of the story shows subtraction of one negative integer and one positive integer.
- Sam and Samantha first started off with 20 cookies. Then Samantha decided to give 4 cookies to the raccoon.
- So our equation would be 20 - (-4). Since you have a positive and a negative you rewrite as addition. So Sam and Samantha have 24 cookies left over to share with their mom.
- So our equation would be -240 divided by 3 which equals to -80. Since we are dividing a negative with a positive our answer would be negative. So each person has to pay $80.
- So Sam and Samantha's mom asked if they could help with money loan for their tuition. Their mom has to pay $240 back and the money will get paid equally between 3 people.
- The second part of the story represents division of two negative integers.
