- Meforesh Q 8: How did Yonah answer the sailors by saying he fears 'ה?
- The sailors heard this and suddenly had a great fear of 'ה. Yonah had told them what he had done and they realized there is no point in turning to any other gods.
- What is your job? Where do you come from? Which nation are you?
- I fear 'ה.
- Meforesh Q 9: Why did the sailors try to go back to shore and why did 'ה not let them?
- Meforesh A 8: By saying עברי אנכי he is answering all their questions, and telling them 'ה created the land and sea, so it's pointless to pray to different gods when 'ה so plainly is the creator of all.
- The sailors didn't want to be involved with innocent blood, so they asked 'ה to take care of it.
- What should we do?

- Throw me into the ocean.
- Meforesh A 9: The sailors still didn't want to throw him off, and wanted to go back to shore so he can do what 'ה wants and go to Ninveh, but 'ה wanted Yonah to go with his own free will, not because he's forced to go.
- Meforesh Q 10: How did the sailors throw Yonah into the sea?
- When the sailors got back to shore, they made sacrifices and vows to 'ה and some even converted because they now knew the wonder of 'ה.

- Meforesh A 10: They put Yonah in little by little in the hope they wouldn't have to be part of the crime.
