  • In 1852, Virginia and her husband Tim lived in Tennessee and worked as farmers. They had 2 boys named Matt Jr. and Jeffrey.
  • Hi, I'm Virginia and I'm a housewife! We're poor but super happy!
  • Hi, I'm Matt!
  • Hi, I'm Jeffrey!
  • Hi, I'm Tim and I'm a farmer!
  • Suddenly, Tim felt sick and was getting worse as the days went on. He told her to search for her family in California before dying. Suddenly, Virginia's world turned upisde down as her husband passed away one morning. She soon became worried because Tim was the main provider and she was just a homemaker.
  • Don't say that! You'll be fine Tim!
  • I don't think I'm going to make it. Before I die, please go find your mother and brother in California so you won't be lonely.
  • As a result, Virginia decided to leave the farm house and sell everything they had to look for her mother and brother who moved to California in search of gold.
  • I need to sell everything to find my family in California! We barely have enough food and water. I'm scared.
  • It will be okay boys. We're going to look for granny Mae and uncle John in California.
  • I can't believe this is happening! This is a nightmare!
  • Okay mom.
  • After 20 days of traveling, Virginia and her sons were growing impatient of how long it will take to arrive in California. They were running out of food and now it seemed a storm was coming.
  • Are we lost?
  • It looks like its going to rain. I hope it's not a storm, there's no shelter here, there's nothing but land...
  • I'm scared
  • Don't worry
  • All of our food was there! How are we going to survive!
  • Suddenly, a loud thunder scared their horse, leaving them without food, water, luggage, and transportation.
  • OH NOOO!!!
  • Boom!!!
  • Whoosh!
  • To Virginia's luck, there was only thunder and no rain. However, they spend two days waiting for a traveler to help them with food or take them to their destination. Finally, Ana and Allen came passing by.
  • Allen, is that a family in the middle of nowhere?
  • Yay!!!
  • Yes Ana, we must help them!
  • Look, someone is heading here!
  • Thank goodness! My prayers were answered!
