What is Food Waste?Food waste is any food that is grown and produced for human consumption but ultimately not eaten.
Wasted food has environmental, economic and social implications. When you waste food that could have been eaten, you are also wasting the natural and human resources that were used to grow, produce, process and transport that food.
Some of the most common causes of food waste are lack of planning, overpreparation, overbuying, and errors in industrial processing.
According to the Food and Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology, The Philippines encounters 1,717 metric tons or 1,717,000 kilograms of food that are wasted each day.
According to Inquirer.net , United Nations (UN) Environment Program data set revealed that one-third or about 1.3 billion tons of food produced in the world yearly “gets lost or wasted".
Our PBL aims to help lessen the food waste that we produce in our daily lives. Look forward to the next part wherein we talk about solutions for food waste
