  • Slide: 1
  • Birth/Early life: Derick grows up in a tight-knit German-American family in a middle class neighborhood. He learns values of Respect, Honestly, and Fairness. He begins to fall in love with sports and history which makes him inquisitive.
  • Middle School: Derick begins noticing unifair treatment toward certain students by teachers. He starts talking more and asking questions, but gets labeled as "talkative" and " argumentative." This marks the beginning of how others misunderstood his confidence and curiosity.
  • Slide: 2
  • Early High School: Derick becomes outspoken about fairness and equality at school. Teachers often interpret his questions as disrespect. His "troublemaker" reputation begins to form despite good grades and intentions.
  • Turning Point: Derick stands up for one of his peers, but gets shut down by the administration. Later, he he faces his own false accusation and uses security footage to prove that he didn't do anything. This enlightens him to the bias of his teachers, and motivates him to create change.
  • Slide: 3
  • Present Day: Derick begins documenting his experiences. He is no longer afraid of speaking up. He advocates for fairness, and to show others that labels don't mean anything.
