In this scene it portrays when the schools in South Africa were going to change to Afrikaans. All these black kids in school knew only how to speak black languages. They were all going to change to Afrikaan in one day and they had no idea how to understand it.

The black kids in South Africa didn't like it all when everything change to Afrikaans because that isn't who they were, and they couldn't understand it. So, the responded by doing a strike and they all planned to not show up to school. The did this strike because they wanted their schools to go back to normal.

After doing the strike at school nothing changed and the school continued teaching Afrikaans. Teachers and parents also didn't like this idea so students decided to do a peaceful protest with no intentions of violence. The people wanted to send a message that would make change and they thought something peaceful and united would change it.

The police got word about the protest, and they took action. When the police first arrived, they responded in a violent way even though the people protesting weren't doing violent. The police sent a dog to attack the people protesting and the people defended themselves and killed the dog. Then the police opened fire even though the attacked first.
As the police shot a 13-year-old boy was caught in the crossfire. His name was Hector Peterson and he was lying on the ground until Mbuyisa Makhbu a nobody picked him up. Hector Peterson's older sister Antionette Sithole was asking him where he was taking him and Mbuyisa was taking him the clinic to get him help. But he was too late, and Hector Peterson died.
In this scene it shows people from around the world watching as riots break out in South Africa. People also saw the photo of Hector Peterson being shot. Sam Nizma published that photo of Hector Peterson in the newspaper and it spreader and everyone saw what the police were doing to people who just wanted to return their schools to normal.
