- In chapter 6 we find out cia's previous roommate Rhyme has killed herself. Page 98 takes place in the cafeteria during breakfast where thomas asks Cia why she never returned to the group the day before, "Once everyone is seated, Thomas asks, "Is everything alright? We kept waiting for you to come back last night." This makes the audience view thomas as a caring person.
- After getting her results of the first test Cia is allowed outside, while outside she comes across a broken fountain. After attempting to fix the fountain herself multiple times she asks Thomas for help. "Thomas is more than willing to leave hsi bench and take a look." says page 101 of the testing. This proves thomas is a caring and selfless person who is willing to put others before himself.
- Between pages 156-157 we find Cia caught between two boards of a broken bridge. While she is struggling to pull herself back to safety Thomas finds her and helps her do so, " My heart is pounding, I can hardly breath, but I manage to croak out, "Thanks" as Thomas's face swims in front of me. His eyes are weary and filled with concern," reads page 157. This shows thomas as a hero because he goes out of his way to help his classmate even though she could lessen his chances of graduating, he still is willing to help her.
