Storyboard Text

  • Man vs. Man
  • "One day when Idek was venting his fury, I happened to cross his path. He threw himself on me like a wild beast, beating me in the chest, on my head, throwing me to the ground and picking me up again, crushing me with ever more violent blows, until I was covered in blood." (Weisel 53)
  • Man vs. Self
  • "I began to think of myself again. My footwas aching, I shivered with every step. Just a few more metersand it will be over. I'll fall... My father's presence was the only thing that stopped me." (Weisel 86)
  • Man vs. Nature
  • We remained sitting in the middle of the street, like the others two days earlier. The same hellish sun. The same thirst. Only there was no one left to bring us water. (Weisel 19)
  • Man vs. Man is depicted in this scene because Idek takes his anger out on Elie in the form of blows.
  • Man vs. Society
  • This scene is from when Elie wants to give up but he doesn't for his father. This is Man vs. Self because he is fighting his instincts to stop to be with his father because he was the only reason his father was still there.
  • Man vs. God
  • Some of the men spoke of God: His mysterious ways, the sinsof the Jewish people, and the redemption to come. As for me, I had ceased to pray. (Weisel 45)
  • This event is from chapter one where the SS officers bring all of the Jews out then take them, after sitting in the blazing heat for hours, to the cattle cars. This represents Man vs. Nature because it is showing how the sun is baking them.
  • This scene depicts how German society threw the Jews into cattle cars which shows men, the Jews, being thrown away by the Germans, who are the society. This one quote, also shows that the Jews alienated their own, Moishe the Beadle.
  • "One day all foreign Jews were expelled from Sighet.And Moishe the Beadle was a foreigner.Crammed into cattle cars by the Hungarian police, they criedsilently." (Weisel 6)
  • This scene shows the time when everyone else was praying to their God Almighty but Elie ceased to pray for a God who let his people endure such a tragedy. This is Man vs. God because Elie is being tested and starting to hate and stop believing in God.
