- Mary Maloney is causally sewing and waiting for her husband to get home from work
- The exposition introduces Mary Maloney, a devoted wife, and her husband Patrick Maloney, a police officer, who comes home from work and tells Mary that he is leaving her.
- Rising Action: In a fit of rage, Mary hits Patrick with a frozen leg of lamb, killing him instantly. She then devises a plan to cover up her crime by cooking the lamb and serving it to the investigating police officers.
- Climax: The climax occurs when the investigating police officers eat the lamb and compliment Mary on her cooking. She then reveals that they have just eaten the murder weapon.
- Falling Action: The falling action begins as the police officers try to find evidence against Mary but are unsuccessful. They ultimately leave without suspecting her.
- Resolution: The resolution occurs when Mary is alone in her home, feeling relieved and triumphant about getting away with the crime.
