Messalina begged her mother not to kill him, but she wouldn’t listen. Messalina cried and shouted, “Please! Kill me instead!” Messalina’s mother chose to ignore her, so Messalina did something that changed her mother’s mind. Messalina told her mother, “What if I marry the Roman prince now, instead of next year? Would you spare Felix’s life then?”
The mother thought about it, discussed it with the king, and then they both came to Messalina to tell her that they agreed, but Messalina would have to marry him the next day
Messalina agreed, and so the next day she married the Roman prince. She was extremely unhappy, but she did what she had to do to spare Felix’s life
After her marriage, she asked if she could be excused, and she ran out of the castle to the bushes. She knew that Felix was there, waiting for her, and he was
Felix confessed that he was a prince, not a peasant. He was never working in the field, he just pretended to be working there so he could meet her. He told her that this was all a test, to see whether Messalina would risk everything to be with him or not. Felix told her that she failed his test, as she married the other prince, so they could no longer meet. Messalina started sobbing, and she tried to explain that she did this to save his life, but he wouldn’t listen. He simply kissed her on the head and said, “Goodbye Messalina. I’ll miss you like you’ll never know.”
Messalina tried to chase after him, but he moved too quickly. She was now lost in the bushes, on her hands and knees, completely covered in dirt. She was sobbing loudly, and from that moment on, she never saw Felix again and lived an unhappy life with the prince
