  • Rome is located in Italy, which includes a peninsula and islands in southern Europe. The peninsula is shaped like a boot and goes into the Mediterranean Sea. The peninsula's toe is pointed at the island of Sicily.
  • Etruscan Sports
  • Romulus and Remus where twins, there father was Mars the god of war and there mother was a princess. One the princess's uncle ordered his men to drown the baby's, but a wolf found them and took them as her own. Then one day a shepherd found the boys and took them in. The boys found their rightful place and had a big fight over the name of a city. Romulus killed Remus and the city eventually became Rome.
  • Greek Architecture
  • Etruscan arches rested on two pillars, which supported a half-circle of wedge-shaped stones. A keystone in the center held the other stones of the arch tightly in place. In time the Romans became better builders than the Etruscans.
  • Greek Culture
  • Etruscan spectators also enjoyed watching chariot races. The charioteers, or drivers, were strapped to their chariots. If a chariot overturned, they could be dragged under the chariot's wheels or trampled by the horses. These fierce competitions often resulted in injury or death. The Romans also flocked to see these chariot racing.
  • The Romans were influenced by the Greeks to build temples using columns. The Greeks also influenced the Romans by using friezes. The Romans had build lots of temples with columns such as the Pantheon in Rome.
  • Greek pottery was valued throughout the Mediterranean world for its usefulness and beauty.They often painted black figures on the red clay. Some of their designs showed pictures of gods and heroes, while others illustrated people in their daily lives. The Romans eagerly brought the work of Greek potters into their homes. Roman artists imitated the technique, but developed their own style.
