Kennedy is delivered with a photo of her mom as a child,“She did go to the ladies' room, but only because she needed better light. Jude could have handed her a photo of anyone, for all she knew…She didn't have to look at it. She could rip it, and at the end of the night, she'd never have to speak to Jude again” (Bennett 324). Kennedy has so many buried emotions regarding her mother from all of the lies. She has an idea of her mother that will change once she knows the actual truth.

Jude has a lot of knowledge about her mother's childhood and Kennedy has many feeling towards her mother's, “The photograph was from a funeral, Jude told her. In the cafeteria the girls had a cross from each other at a long little table, sipping lukewarm coffee, the photo line between them. Now she glanced back at the picture, those twin girls…She touched the photo, reminding herself that it was real. Needing it, somehow, to tether in place” ( Bennett 329). Seeing this photo has changed Kennedy's outlook on her mom's life. She cares deeply about the lies from her mom about her childhood and family.

Kennedy finally confronts her mother about her knowledge about her real life,“Instead, she handed her mother the photograph. “What's this?” she asked, tilting her head to look at it. “It's from your father's funeral,” Kennedy said. “Don't you remember her?” Her mother said nothing, her face blank. She stared at the picture” ( Bennett 335). Stella has not seen this photo in over 15 years and she sees it out of nowhere because of her daughter. Her saying nothing shows how shocked she was and was ready to create a lie.
