  • Indian people have made perception that they lived in very flithy conditons,some poeple don't like to talk to them due their condition like dirty clothes etc.. sometimes these peolpe can steal things also, so people don't trust them.
  • What kind of sterotypes are there of people living in the slums?
  • When I see a person from slum area my first thought would be that he is not well groomed, well dressed, his language will be full of slang due to these sterotypes they dont get better education and better jobs.

  • People don't like to interact with them, there is wealth gap in India. Richer get richer and poor get poorer.
  • Can you imagine living in the slum yourself?
  • Obivously, there are going to be hardships because they are not living in official property, they don't get proprer elctricity and water supply.
  • Do you think people are educated in slums?
  • No, because I am happy where I am?
  • No, bascially they are far away from the societal zone.They live there on their terms and they only want money to live.So they don't want proper education.
  • 3 kids and 2 adult can sleep on the floor.
  • How much you earn per day?
  • We sleep upstairs.
  • We keep buckets and didn't get full rest at night.
  • Do you have acess to clean water? Is the water clean you get?
  • We didn't get water in time, we go around asking for water from the people.Yes, sometimes its clean and sometimes its dirty.
  • How do you handle all leakage during rainy season?
  • We get the fixed salary, i.e rs. 6000,no matter how much work we do.
  • Where do you sleep? How many people sleep upstairs
  • Mumbai, the wealthest city in India, however Mubai is also home to Dharavi, one of the largest slum in asia and has a population of about 1,000,000. Nobody knows what actually happens in slums inside Dharavi, so we thought first ask Mumbai residents living outside the Dharavi.Participants- Local resident, Slum resident(maid, worker, Preschool teacher, students) etc.
  • Did you get any diseases from the dirty water?
  • Did you boil the water before drinking?
  • No, we drink directly.we don't drink dirty water directly, we store water if it doesn't stink. and clean.
  • Peolpe outside Dharavi made a perception for the people lived in slums that they lived in flithy condition, they don't want proper education, they steal things, they liked the way they lived, they lived for money only.
  • What type of diseases do you get?
  • How are you treated by people outside the slums?
  • How quickly do you get diseases?
  • They people think we live in Dharavi so we are cheap, theif and worst. They don't give admission to us in school beacuse they think we are unhygenic.
  • Sometimes , we got cold, malaria and even typoid.Yes, we catch diseases quickly due to uncleanliness.
  • During interview, if Dharavi is mention in our resumw they look down to us.
  • Ater asking the same questions, We want to know about the Dharavi's people living in the slum? We need to find the answers of the questions that comes in our mind after talking to the people of Mumbai resident who lived outside the slums.
  • What percentage of the population of Dharavi is illterate?
  • 70% people are not well eduated as they come from different village to earn money.But they want to educate their children.,so that their will not live their life them.
  • People in Dharavi are leading a very hard life as they don't have clean water and ekctricity supply.The water comes from BMC, the water authority in Mumbai sometimes there is a leakage so the dirty water comes and contaminated clean water.They live on unofficial land and normal people cannot think of living in the slums, but people of slums are happy as they think happines can't find through money but happines is with our loved ones.
  • We move to another house, where we met a maid who earn 3000 per month and lived in small house. She offered tea and biscuits to all of them and tell them how they protect themselves from disease? They clean their houses and mopped their houses with phynel, because they cann't clean their streets.There is lot of trash in the street but the kids seems carefree and happy. People don't want to leave Dharavi beacuse they are happy and used to it.
  • We met preschool teacher Faressa, she agreed to show us her home and her preschool.When asked outside the people think the only way to get out of the slums is through education, but everyone can't afford tution fees. she said,"If the kids are from Dharavi they don,t get admission in good private school because we are coming form Dharavi.It dosen't matter to them how brilliant they are, how intelligent they are, they don't kids from slum areas."
