The Pope urged Western Christians to take action in November 1095 at the Council of Clermont in southern France to defend the Byzantines and expel Muslims from the Holy Land. At this point, the crusades began.Their main objective was to stop muslim goverments, and recover the Holy Land for Christianity in the Middle East .
On July 4, 1187, the most famous battle happened, Horns of Hattin, between Second and Third Crusader. It started when Raynald of Châtillon attacked a Muslim, which angered Saladin. He swore to murder Raynald. Saladin made King Guy of Jerusalem go outside by occupying Tiberas. The Crusaders were pushed by Saladin's army, set nearby fields on fire, and were killed. It was a big win for Saladin, and it will affect how the Third Crusade gets started.

On September 7, 1191, King Richard and Saladin, engaged in the Battle of Asruf. Saladin forced his entire army to engage in combat, but Richard remained on the defensive until the end, at until he launched a response. After winning, the two sides would come to an agreement that would put an end to the Third Crusade and grant the Crusaders authority over the coast of Palestine.
