- Monica arrives at Kuper Island Residential School with six other children. She is scared and confused, sure that it is a mistake that she is there.

- Once Monica arrives at the school her and her friend Dusty get their hair cut. Though both girls fight it, they end up with their braids being cut off, which they had promised would never happen.

- Monica was sent to the school to learn how to be a teacher. She tries to get her hands on as many books as she can, to get the education she was sent by her father to receive.

- Not long after her arrival, Father Maynard start to sexually assault Monica. Him, his accomplis Sister Mary Louise and the girls all start to call Monica ‘LP’ which means little princess. They use this name to bully and assault Monica.
