In chapter 4 Elie had to get his gold crown removed. They took his to the camp's dentists and removed it with a spoon and no medicine to numb it.
Man vs Nature
When questioned by the SS officer, Elie lies about his age and occupation so that he goes into a labor camp rather than the crematorium. Elie lies about his age because the inmate told him that if they were too young or too old, they would be killed by the Germans right away.
Man vs Society
" An infinitely long train, composed of roofless cattle cars. The SS shoved us inside, a hundred per car: we were so skinny!"(Wiesel 97)
Elie is not sure if he should keep his faith with god. He thinks this because he doesn't think that god has done anything for him. He loses faith and decides not to fast.
"They had orders to shoot anyone that could not sustain the pace."(Weisel 85). They are battling for their lives.
They had to put 80 people in the train. They got so skinny that they now can put 100 people in.
