Connie starts to become fearful whenever Arnold starts to describe how he will be her lover. He has been stalking her and she realizes that bad things would happen to her if she went. He also specifically threatens her family and she realizes they could be harmed too.
FALLING ACTION

Connie defies Arnold and goes into the house to try and use the phone to get in contact with her mom. She fails and slinks down, defeated and overwhelmed with fear. Arnold is yelling at her the whole time and never enters the house after her.
MOM! MOM! PLEASE! HELP!

Don't get on that phone. I'm the only one who could do this for you. Put it down. Don't make me come in there after you.
CONCLUSION

Connie eventually loses all emotion and goes into Arnold's "welcoming" embrace. She recognizes that where she is going is as unfamiliar as the rolling fields before her. He calls her his blue-eyed girl, when she is obviously brown-eyed, to show that he had a made up reality in his head
