I'm not sure where the Harvey House is, but I think we are close.
Boomtowns/ Mining
This place is empty. No one is here.
Homesteading was when the Government gave 160 acres of free land to people to encourage westward expansion. The people who lived there had to improve it in any way. They could do something as little as putting up a fence or even growing a farm. In the picture you can see that the farmer has barely started his farm.
Harvey Houses
Hello! Welcome to the Harvey House. My name is Melinda, and I'll be helping you with your experience here.
The railroad connected NM to other parts of the country. Goods were easily traded. People were able to travel long distances faster. In the picture, the man is talking about finding the harvey house.
Tourism
Coming here was such a great idea! I love the new rug I just bought. It will go great in the dining room.
Boomtown are also known as Ghost towns. The reason is because they attracted people from all over because of the materials and for mining. They are called boomtowns because the population sprang up so quickly for the materials that were there. When everything was gone, they became ghost towns.
Wild West
I'm gonna shoot you! You stole from my wife!
(The railroad is "behind" the picture) Harvey houses were places for travelers eat or rest after  traveling. The workers were all women. They were all women because men were unreliable, rude, and dirty. And Harvey Houses were always located right next to the train stations.
Tourism was big after the railroad. People came from all over the country to buy things. People also came to learn about the Southwestern culture. People even stole artifacts and insulted the culture.
The wild west was lawless so it was good places for outlaws to hide. Everybody carried guns and used them to solve problems. Land grants created disputes. People would get in gun fights or even die for the littlest things.
