- This is my friend Steve, But I couldn't play with him because he was always working on a farm, Because he was a slave.
- My name's Steve and I'm a slave.
- But one day in 1865 something changed, something good.
- One day, Steve was finally free! I didn't know about it until he came to my house and knocked on the door. Steve told me about the 13th Amendment. CONGRESS PASSED A BILL THAT FREED ALL SLAVES IN THE USA!!!
- I thought this was a dream, but when i pinched myself it really hurt "OUCH" I was not dreaming. Is Steve finally free?

- In 1868, Steve had even better news! The 14th Amendment was ratified.
- "Did you hear the news?" "All people who were or are now born in the USA are Americans, and I'm now free from slavery."
- "Does that mean that you are American?"
- YIPPY!!!
- YES IT DOES!

- In 1870 me and Steve heard big people talking about the news. The 15th Amendment gave black menthe right to vote.
- What news?
- Have you heard the news?
- They allowed us men to vote.
- Wow!! I'm happy for you and men but I wish Us women can vote too
- Maybe one day....
- Me and Steve can't wait for the future.
