Melba stops to use the restroom Danny stays outside. Melba encounters a girl who tells her that there is no sign marked “Colored” on the door

Melba is sitting at a table alone but some boys start getting closer to her than usual which is suspicious. Now they are trying to avenge for what Minnijean did with the chili soup.

As Minnijean is being tormented by a group of white boys, she accidentally dropped her tray of chili on one of them; this incident will lead to immediate punishment towards Minnijean and will give the segregationist a reason to kick her out.

In this scene Melba was walking through the hallway with her bodyguard Danny when out of nowhere someone threw acid at Melba's eyes. Danny grabbed her by her ponytail and threw water in her eyes. This action saved her from going blind.

In this scene Melba was being thrown items but one of the item's was a ball wrapped in paper Melba had remember that her grandmother taught her that when the segregationist attack she should act as though theyve done something nice.

Melba takes control of the situation by not giving the boys the reaction they had expected Melba to give instead Melba had taken her grandmother's advice.

This scene is important because it shows how Danny cannot protect Melba from verbal harassment of the white Girls just as he can't protect her from the white boys that want to assert their white supremacy.

This scene is important because it shows the consistent bullying and they push the black students to defend themselves even though they were told not to retaliate. The black students have trauma.
