- John traveled and arrived in Panama, upon arriving and going directly to the Canal zone in search of a job there; The construction bosses fired him because they saw that he was too young, and they did not even listen to the ideas that John had for the Canal.

- John sadly went to stay in a home that he had been able to find. When he arrived home, it was a family made up of a father, a mother and three small children who would give him shelter as long as John did the housework.

- Hey John, what did you come to look for in Panama? You come from very far away.
- I have to tell you the truth...
- When it was time for dinner, John set the table for the family and the father of the family very kindly invited him to have dinner with them, to which John agreed and sat down. The family and John began to get to know each other while they talked and ate dinner.
