  • September 1, 1939, the invasion of Poland was the start of the Second World War. At this time, Hitler was still building his army, but he needed resources. Poland was stated to be an independent nation to itself by the Treaty of Versailles. Hitler was able to conquer Poland through the "blitzkrieg" strategy. The strategy consist of depriving Poland of their air support, then their land supplies, and lastly the invasion of Poland with the Nazis. By October 6, 1939, exactly a month later, Poland now belongs to Hitler and the Nazis.
  • Battle at El Alamein
  • The Holocaust started even before WW2. In total, 11 million people died consist of Jews and the "undesirables." Of those 11 million, 1.5 million were children, 6 million were Jews, and 5 million were the undesirables. 1941 marked the beginning of the massacre of Jews, Gypsies, homosexual, Jehovah's witness, handicapped Germans, Poles, and Political dissidents. Expulsion, containment, and annihilation were used for dealing w/ "Jewish Question." After the invasion of Poland, Hitler began setting up concentration camps. By 1945, this only stop w/ the end of WW2.
  • Battle at Stalingrad

  • December 4, 1941, the most devastating event for the United States before 9/11. FDR dubbed it "a date which will live in infamy." For most part of WW2, the US stayed neutral until the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The bombing killed more than 2,300 Americans and destroyed the American battleship U.S.S Arizona and capsized the U.S.S. Oklahoma(America's Library). The bombing took the United states by surprise as well the Pearl Harbor base. The next day, President Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan.
  • Normandy Landings
  • The Second Batltle of El Almein was a major turning point for the Allies during WW2. This is where Britain won its first major battle during WW2. The Allies drove Rommel's army to Tunisia, where they surrendered. This major victory of the Allies helped them to invade and conquer Sicily. Summer of 1943, the Allies force Mussolini out of power.
  • August 23, 1942 marked the beginning of the Battle at Stalingrad. The Battle at Stalingrad was another major victory for the Allies. The Nazis and the Soviet Union fought for control over Stalingrad, now Volgograd. The Nazis w/o food or ammunition supplies surrendered in January 1943. By this time, the winner of WW2 can be already predicted.
  • D-Day, also known as the invasion of France. Even with the heavy Nazis' defense and heavy losses, the invasion was a success. The U.S. had 73,000 troops sent to battle but by the end they only had 6,603 troops left. In total the U.S., Britain, and Canada lost a total of 10,249 troops in the invasion of France. By early 1935, the Nazis have been defeated and the Second World War had now ended.
