This shows rationalization because they are using theoretically plausible excuses to justify in this case dropping his food on the floor because he was on his phone.
I dropped it because of the car that passed me. It scared me!
Here we can see that not only does he once again use rationalization, but he is in denial because he refuses to accept the fact that him dropping the food is his fault. In this frame, we also see how he uses the defense mechanism of compensation. This is because he has a fear of getting in trouble and wants to make up for this unconscious and conscious fear.
I got scared by a car and the breeze from it knocked it out of my hands. I can go back to get more food if you want.
Not only does he use these three mechanisms of denfense, he also uses displacement. He uses this by putting the blame on the car and the air that came off the car when it drove by him, displacing the blame onto the car.
Wheres the food?
I don't remember haha.
So what really happened with the food earlier?
Here we see that he is using repression to repress the undesireable memory hidden in hopes to forget about it.
