Hey Chris, I've been planning to put a network operating system here in our office, what do you think is the best one?
Well sir there are two different network operating systems and each one have their own advantage and disadvantages.
Could you tell me the difference between the two?
Also the set-up convenience, An operating system (such as Windows XP) already in place may only need to be reconfigured for peer-to-peer operations.
The first one is called peer-to-peer network, one advantage of this is there will be less initial expense since it doesn't require a server
Wow that's very nice but I guess it has it's disadvantages too.
Yes you're right sir. A disadvantage of this network is there is no central repository for files and apps. Also it doesn't provide the security available in the client/server network.
Does that mean the client /server is better than peer-to-peer?
Well the advantage of a client/server network is it's centralized, resources and data security are controlled through the server. Also it's flexibility, whenever there is a new technology then it will be easy to integrate in the system. Lastly is it's accessibility, the server can be accessed remotely and across multiple platforms.
Wow, so it is really better.
Well on the other hand, the disadvantage of this network is it's costly and maintenance. It requires initial investment to have a dedicated server and it requires staff to ensure the stability of the network
It is also dependent, when the server goes down then the operations will be stopped across the network.
Thank you for your help Chris, maybe I'll be having the peer-to-peer since our office is only starting and still small.
Welcome sir, that's what I was about to recommend you.
