  • I agree, we need to establish a set standard criteria for classifying whether a person has the disease or not.
  • Our starting point should be analyzing data from hospital records and local doctors for common signs and symptoms.

  • There are definitely common symptoms that all affected patients share.
  • Virus X Case Definition Clinical description: A febrile illness of greater than or equal to 5 days’ duration, with at least two of the three following physical findings and no other more reasonable explanation for the observed clinical findings: Sore throat, dry cough loss of taste and smell.
  • Virus X Case Definition continued... 2. Physical Finding: Shortness of breath, tight chest and generalized fatigue.3. Lab confirmatory tests: Positive PCR test from a nasopharyngeal swab/throat swab.
  • After data analysis from patient records the task team finally coined a case definition for Virus X. This criteria will be communicated to all healthcare workers, officials and public for early detection of cases.
