- Georgiana was pale as they left for the lab, and Aylmer wanted to reassure her. However, her paleness made her mark very visible, and he shuddered, resulting in her fainting. Aylmer stamped his foot and called for his assistant to help carry her away.
- "Aminadab! Aminadab!"
- "Yes, master... If she were my wife, I'd never part with that birthmark."
- Slide: 2
- "Fear not, dearest! Do not shrink from me! Believe me, Georgiana, I even rejoice in this single imperfection, since it will be such a rapture to remove it."
- "Oh, spare me! Pray do not look at it again. I never can forget that convulsive shudder."
- Georgiana woke up in a beautiful room, and noticing Aylmer, covered her left cheek to hide the birthmark. Aylmer tries to reassure her the seeing it again will only make it more satisfying to remove, while she fears seeing him shudder again.

- "Danger? There is but one danger--that this horrible stigma shall be left upon my cheek! Remove it, remove it, whatever be the cost, or we shall both go mad!"
- "Heaven knows your words are too true, and now, dearest, return to your boudoir. In a little while all will be tested."
- Georgiana snuck into the lab, and after being caught by Aylmer, he was very upset at her. He accused her of not trusting him, but she accused him of not trusting her enough by hiding what he is doing from her. When she asked why he hid his work, he said there was danger, but due to being manipulated into thinking so she said the only real danger was the mark still on her face, and Aylmer agrees and prepares to try his experiment.
