- The Gauteng Department of Health has reported an outbreak of Cholera in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria.The township of Hammanskraal is of poor socioeconomic status, thus Government has set up a field hospital in Kanana resulting from the increasing number of infected people daily.As of 29 May 2023, 229 people have been seen in Jubilee Hospital. Of this 229, 23 have succumbed to CholeraWhile 23 have been transferred to Gauteng based hospitals.The minister of health, Mr. Joe Phaahla is set to have a meeting with Mr Sithole the head of Internal medicine in Jubilee hospital to discuss the situation.
- The situation is bad out there Mr. Joe. People are presenting with severe symptoms and the number of deaths is increasing.
- Most of them are presenting with diarrhea nausea and vomiting, dehydration and fatigue. These are classical symptoms of Cholera

As the Municipality, we want to assure you that we are working tirelessly with the Dep. of Health and all other relevant stakeholders. Stay calm, the situation is under control, Cholera is preventable and curable, and our health facilities are working hard to help you. Please work with them, and take all necessary precautions like keeping your environment clean, safe drinking water and food. Should you feel any signs and symptoms, please go to the nearest health facility.
