Hashem also saidועבדי כלב עקב היתה רוח אחרת עמו וימלא אחרי להביאתיו אל הארץ אשר בא שמה וזרעו יורשנה that Kalev had a different spirit and followed him so he will bring him to the land and his children will inherit it.

Hashem decided to punish the spiesמדה כנגד מדה (measure for measure) They got punished by there tongues went to their stomachsand worms came out of their tongueswhich killed them. they got the tongues stomachs and worms for these reasons:

1) Tongue: They spoke ל״ה with their lips

2) Stomach: they spoke bad about א״י and א״י is the center of the world and your stomach is the center of your body

3) worms: Worms use there mouth to destroy and the spies used there mouth to destroy.

The new punishment was that the men from 20-60 would die every year on the 9th of av. the people who wouldn't die were

1) the people 0-19

2) people over 60

3 )woman

4) shevet לוי'

but all of these people would wander in the desert for 40 years. *a day for a year

Rashi says that they also diedכאשר דברתם like they spoke.

Rashi also says that it was 40 years soכדי שיהיו אותם של בני עשרים מגיעין לכלל ששים that those who were 20 could reach the age of 60.

There was a group called "the stubborn ones" and they wanted to enterא״י so they went up the mountain. Moshe warned them not to go and they they would be killed but they were stubborn and didn't listen. They got killed.
