  • John Brown, Pro slavery, Free staters, and abolitionist (John brown was the main abolitionist in bleeding Kansas but would later be tried for murder, slave insurrection and treason against the state causing him to be executed).
  • Bleeding Kansas
  • Following the formation of the new territory of Kansas in 1854, there were periodic outbreaks of brutal guerrilla warfare between pro-slavery and anti-slavery factions. This would cause about 55 deaths
  • Kansas and Nebraska were established as territories under the Kansas-Nebraska Act. The statute gave the citizens of each region the option of allowing or prohibiting slavery.The Republican Party was founded in response to the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which became the nation's premier antislavery political party. This connects to Bleeding Kansas because this act lead to the violent wars.
