- Those darn Germans and Austria-Hungarians. They even have Italy now,
- I don't like the German's either. So greedy for land.
- Sure.
- Your opposed to them too? Want to make an alliance?
- We are building a Navy!
- So are we!
- Germany tries to use imperialism to take more territory in 1871 and they form an alliance with Austria-Hungary and Italy. Their alliance became known as the Triple Alliance.
- I'm here to assassinate you!
- AHhHhHh!
- Russia was afraid that Germany might expand into Russia. France was also opposed to Germany's uprising so they formed an alliance with Russia. Their alliance was called the Franco-Russian Alliance. That also happened in 1871.
- Hey! You can't attack France through us!
- Oh, yeah? Just watch!
- Germany was building their Navy, and so was Great Britain in 1898. Great Britain was neutral but with the naval race it made tensions between them and Germany. Great Britain then joined in with France and Russia. Their alliance now became known as the Triple Encente.
- Germany help! We can't fight off the Russians. You need to send troops to help us.
- In June of 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand visited Austria-Hungary and was assassinated by a member of the Serbian Nationalist Group. Austria-Hungary blamed Serbia and wanted to attack but knew that it would trigger a war with Serbia's ally, Russia. Instead of attacking they call for support from Germany.
- In 1914 Germany tries to invade France but since France has protection along the border, Germany tries to go through Belgium. Belgium fights back and slows down Germany on their mission to France. Meanwhile...
- Russia attacks while Germany is busy with Belgium. Germany calls for Austria-Hungary to help fight back but Germany has to send troops to help fight with Austria-Hungary against Russia. Great Britain allies with France and the sides have been set as World War One is declared in 1914.
