  • The companionship between Lennie and George forms an unexpected bond during the Great Depression time period. After killing Lennie, George knows that he won't pursue his American Dream anymore. Without Lennie, George is going to spend his money in the city on entertainment instead of saving it with a purpose.
  • Crooks realizes that Lennie depends on George and vice versa. He explains that he's jealous of Lennie because he has a great friend that's always there for him. Due to his skin color, Crooks can't socialize with the ranch members. Crooks exploit Lennie's dependence on George, threatening that George won't return from the city. Lennie cannot comprehend the information, and Crooks apologizes after realizing just how important the companionship between Lennie and George is.
