Hi there! Did you know storytelling has been around since the beginning of humanity’s existence starting with oral stories?!
Storytelling digitally offers even more opportunities allowing us s to incorporate multimodality!
Another benefit of digital storytelling is that it allows us to reflect on racial justice.
Also, learning about the storytellers’ identities opens up discussions about race, class and gender.
Quick access to others' digital stories provides immediate exposure!
Researchers such as Rachel Rys call “for researchers to express and share their work in comics” and argues that comics “contain powerful storytelling tools” (15)
Others like Cheryl E. Matias and Tanetha J. Grosland view it as an opportunity to “re-empower their own identities away from Whiteness” (6).
Moreover, Marina Amâncio’s research on Instagram and Snapchat shows that identities are revealed through these “stories” which narrate what he/she wants to share with the world through the inclusion of images, sounds, and videos
Digital storytelling offers new insights and opportunities to analyze identities, thus, allowing us to deconstruct those identities and further add to productive discussions.
