- Hi there! Did you know storytelling has been around since the beginning of humanity’s existence starting with oral stories?!
- Storytelling digitally offers even more opportunities allowing us s to incorporate multimodality!
- Another benefit of digital storytelling is that it allows us to reflect on racial justice.
- Also, learning about the storytellers’ identities opens up discussions about race, class and gender.
- Quick access to others' digital stories provides immediate exposure!
- Researchers such as Rachel Rys call “for researchers to express and share their work in comics” and argues that comics “contain powerful storytelling tools” (15)
- Others like Cheryl E. Matias and Tanetha J. Grosland view it as an opportunity to “re-empower their own identities away from Whiteness” (6).
- Moreover, Marina Amâncio’s research on Instagram and Snapchat shows that identities are revealed through these “stories” which narrate what he/she wants to share with the world through the inclusion of images, sounds, and videos
- Digital storytelling offers new insights and opportunities to analyze identities, thus, allowing us to deconstruct those identities and further add to productive discussions.
