- Jason, a young teenager, was an employee at his local supermarket. He was a great worker, but when COVID-19 came and rules/restrictions (wearing a mask, social distancing, etc.) were put in place, he never followed them. Jason didn't follow the guidelines, as he didn't believe it was necessary and he would never get the sickness.
- I dunno, I didn't feel like it.
- Jason, why on earth aren't you wearing your face mask?
- His boss continuously told him to stop his games and follow the rules, but Jason refused. He told Jason that this virus is spread when an infected individual coughs, sneezes, or talks and the water droplets from their mouth/nose are launched into the air, then onto the faces of others. He continued, saying it's important to use hand sanitizer because most antibacterial sprays kill 99.9% of bacteria/germs, masks will prevent from spreading the virus if you have it, and social distancing will reduce the spread as well.
- Jason! You haven't worn your mask, sanitized, or practiced social distancing!
- I just don't want to. It's not like I'm gonna get COVID
- Well, you see... I tested positive for COVID
- WHAT?! I TOLD YOU JASON!
- One day, Jason came down with a horrible fever and thought it would be a good idea to get tested for COVID-19. A few days later, Jason learnt that he had received a positive test, and called his boss to make him aware of his situation. Due to contact tracing, Jason and his boss both had to isolate for the required 14 days.
- After a few days of his quarantine, Jason realized that he should have listened to his boss. During this time, he did some research and learnt that after these measures were put in place, the curve for COVID cases has flattened significantly and if he'd washed his hands more often and practiced social distancing, this probably never would have happened.
- If I had worn my mask and followed COVID protocol, this never would have happened!
- *cough cough*
- Two weeks later, Jason and his boss both returned to the workplace. Jason came back with not only a smile on his face, but a mask as well. He learnt that when you take precautions it helps not only yourself but the ones around you too. He found out that practices such as social distancing have reduced cases throughout not only his town but his country as well.
- Hello Jason, I'm so glad to see you wearing your mask!
- Hi! I realized that wearing a mask is a good idea after all.
- Jason was found following all COVID-19 protocols and restrictions, and this made his boss ecstatic. He now tried harder than ever to make sure he was working in a safe, clean environment so that it wouldn't affect anyone. It was clear to him now that if he were to spread it, he could be spreading it to people who can't afford to stay home from work or get sick at all.
- Jason, I'm so proud of you!
