  • Elya's pig and the other man's pig weighed exactly the same. Myra's father asked Myra to choose. Since Myra couldn't choose, Elya realized how dumb he had been and gave his pig away.
  • Greetings.I am Madame Zeroni, the fortune-teller of Latvia.Let me tell you my story.
  • Introduction We first meet Madame Zeroni when Elya Yelnats, the great-great-grandfather of Stanley Yelnats, comes to consult with her.
  • Elya's problem Elya tells Madame Zeroni that another man has a pig in exchange for a girl called Myra. Even though she says that Myra is dumb and Elya should go to America, Elya desperately wants to marry her. Madame gives Elya a pig and a special song for a promise. Afterwards, Elya must carry her up the mountain and sing her the special song. If he broke the promise, Elya's family would be cursed forever.
  • I really want to marry Myra. Madame Zeroni, help me!
  • Fine. You may have one of my pigs.
  • The promise Madame Zeroni tells Elya to carry the pig up the mountain and sing it a song. Everyday, the pig will get stronger and bigger, and Elya will get stronger as well.
