- John Brown is Hanged
- Abraham Lincoln is elected
- Fort Sumter is attacked
- John Brown led an attack on Harper's Ferry, WV. His goal was to give southern slaves weapons to revolt with. This made the south hate him and the north like him. He was captured by U.S. troops 2 days after and was hanged.
- Slaves in South
- Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the U.S. He was also the first republican president. Lincoln was against slavery which caused the south to dislike him and he received zero votes from the southern states.
- Emancipation Proclamation
- On April 12th-14th, 1861, a Union-controlled base in Charleston, SC was attacked and bombed by the Confederates. This attack signaled the start of the Civil War.
- Battle of Gettysburg
- Slaves were used in the southern states, many of these states relied on the slaves for their economic development. Theses slaves worked relentless hours in fields and for their "owners".
- Sept. 1862, Lincoln declared a law freeing all slaves in the south and in the confederate states. It also stated that freed slaves could join the Union army and fight against the Confederates.
- EmancipationProclamation
- The Battle of Gettysburg was the deadliest battle of the Civil War. This battle was held in Gettysburg, PA in July, 1863. This was the last time the North was invaded by the South. It was a huge victorious win for the Union.
